We live in a world that destroys these Scottish children... divorce, abuse, pornography, violence... children grow up too fast... and their hearts close to the life-changing good news in the Bible. Scottish children who never hear about a God who loves them... the salvation that is available through faith in Jesus Christ. And many of them will never respond unless we reach them early. This means missions and missionaries and children's ministries are needed. In recent years, one Bible based children's ministry has emerged that is truly making an impact for Jesus in the lives of Scottish children in Dundee... The Attic. Founded in 1996 by Bruce and Carolyn White, the Attic Children's Ministry now has 2 full-time staff members and a host of Christian volunteers, working out of an office in a small church near the Hilltown of Dundee Scotland. It is a hard area of town... burned out, boarded up tenements, towering multis slated for destruction... Shattered windows that mirror shattered lives. The Attic acts as a lighthouse in a sea of spiritual darkness... a refuge for the Scottish children and single mums of the area... a place of Bible study, discipleship, Christian children's ministry... of faith, hope and love. Each Monday, a dedicated group of mostly volunteer Christian workers spends the day in prayer, fasting and preparation for the big children's ministry celebration, Bible lessons and worship time. Another Christian missions ministry in the area, Signpost International, located in an abandoned church in the Hilltown, graciously allows the use of their auditorium for the festivities. Two hired double-decker buses pull out at 5:30 pm and comb the city, picking up the eager children. At the Attic, boys on the right, girls on the left, and the fun begins! Games, drama, contests, worship and praise songs... controlled bedlam!   But the smiles on the faces... the joy in the music... the worship of the Lord Jesus Christ... It is a sight to behold! And the Bible lessons that follow are taught in ways that touch a young child’s heart. I started in children's ministry in Dundee at this church (when it was still a church!) on my first short term mission project in 1991. Many of these children’s older brothers and sisters (and parents!) were the kids I started ministry with 15 years ago, and were part of the problem in the area... gangs, violence, vandalism. The church building was routinely vandalized and even fire-bombed once! Bibles we gave away were shredded and strewn around the filthy streets. Windows were broken, rocks were thrown, Christian volunteers were assaulted and threatened. To say the least, it was a tough area to do Christian children's ministry and teens ministry... much less try to do Bible study! But... to stand now in the back of an auditorium with 110+ children singing praises to God... while remembering the violence and disruption that was there not so many years ago never fails to touch my heart. God IS working in this Christian children's ministry in Dundee Scotland! And You can be a "missionary" and join Him in His work... But the bottom line is this: Effective children's ministry requires God’s people to be willing to give. The kids themselves have no money... And if God's people don't support God's work financially, who will?   There is only so much that can be done in any children's ministry without the people of God being generous stewards of all that God has blessed them with... The fact that you are reading this now tells me you have been blessed... You have electricity... a computer... an internet connection. You have a home, an education, and someone in your life who cared enough to tell you about Jesus and love you into God’s family... Please... allow God to bless these children and this Bible based Christian children's ministry, the Attic, through you. Ask yourself:  Is the soul of a child worth $1 a week to you...? In most cases, the Attic ministry is the only contact these children have with the Bible and with Christians. 94% of the kids have virtually no other contact with the Word of God. And these hard-working volunteers visit over 100 children and their parents in their homes every week,as well as staying in touch several times per year with the 300+ kids who have been a part of the Attic over the years. It is unbelievable dedication. But... Their computers and printers wear out; Sound equipment is old; Double-decker buses must be hired; Game and food supplies cost money; Their minibuses are decrepit; The office flat is often the target of vandals doing the Enemy’s work; Summer camps cost money, as does family outreach... And the list goes on and on. The needs of even this modest, frugal children's ministry with its small, barely-paid staff are overwhelming if just a few try to carry the load. But... if we all give just a little... these kids can be reached with the Gospel of Jesus Christ! What would God have you do? Ask Him. Please prayerfully consider choosing one of the following commitment levels... you can stop any time you feel led... Somewhere in the past, someone gave so that you could hear about Jesus...   $4/month ($0.13/day): One soft drink or cup of coffee a week. One fast-food meal per month . . . Give this small thing for these children and this children's ministry and invest the time you would've used to pray for the Attic kids and staff.   $7/month ($0.23/day): One restaurant lunch per month... take a sack lunch to work or fast... and spend that hour being a prayer missionary, praying for the Attic children's ministry.   $11/mo ($0.36/day): One restaurant dinner per month. Just one. Or give up just one "premium" channel on your cable or sattelite service. Probably nothing on it that Jesus would watch anyway...   $14/mo ($0.46/day): Give up one soft drink or cup of coffee every other day. Your body will thank you, your sleep will improve... and an Attic child will get to go to Christian summer camp!   $23/mo ($0.76/day): Sacrifice one movie and dinner (for one!) per month. Still less than $1/day... Spend that time in God’s Word, or with your children, or simply talking to the Father about this children's ministry/mission.   I love these kids and the dedicated staff that toil in this kid's ministry. God grabbed my heart 15 years ago and broke it for the lost children and teens of Dundee Scotland. And yes, my wife of 24 years and I invest in these children... traveling to Dundee to minister in a hands-on way 2-4 times per year, contributing $75/month from our personal finances, as well as soliciting $25/month from each of several Sunday School classes and the youth group at our church. (Maybe you could present this opportunity to your Sunday School class. Or maybe the youth group at your church could take it on as a fund-raising/mission project!) We are not wealthy... but we, like you, have been blessed... and are trying to be obedient to a call to ministry that God placed in our hearts. God loves these kids! The Attic ministry: Bible based, free, evangelistic, biblical Christian children's ministry. It is a kid's ministry where children are taught that Jesus Christ is the only way of salvation, the Holy Bible is the inspired Word of God.
